Is my baby teething?

Is your baby more fussy than usual? Did you check their gums to see if they are not perhaps teething?

The teething process usually starts around 6 - 12 months. This is when the teeth is busy breaking through the gums. Your baby might experience is completely different than other babies. An interesting fact also... not all the teething is painful.

The first signs to look out for usually includes symptoms such as irritability, tender and swollen gums, excessive drooling, your infant wanting to place all kinds of objects or their fingers into their mouth in an attempt to reduce discomfort.

Some moms have also noticed an increase in body temperature and the odd case of diarrhea.

When your baby is showing signs of teething you don't have to immediately reach for the pain medication. Try massaging your baby's gums. Gentle pressure with a clean finger can actually help soothe the pain.

You can also offer them a clean cloth that you have placed in the freezer. It is known that a cold compress can also help reduce the swelling and discomfort.

Teething usually occurs in pairs, typically the first teeth to make their appearance are almost always the lower front teeth.
